It’s Getting Crowded!

family, Svara

In the past couple of weeks Svara has begun to get really attached to her stuffed animals and baby dolls.  She loved playing with them previously, but now she likes to have certain ones with her when she’s having stories read to her, when she goes to bed, and even when she nurses.

Her two favorites area  stuffed cat and a smaller baby doll, both of which she got from her Nanna (my mom).  She has to have them both with her on my lap when she nurses before her nap and at bedtime.  It can get a bit crowded on my lap with her and two dolls!

But I don’t really mind.  I figure if she’s holding them while she’s nursing and then she goes to bed with them if she wakes up and still has her dolls, she might be able to go back to sleep better without having to nurse again.  I don’t think that’s happening yet, but the attachment is growing, so maybe soon!

I’ve gone back and forth in my mind about whether to night wean Svara or not.  I know once I decide to I’ll have to stick with my  decision, so I haven’t taken the plunge yet.  I read that toddlers often go through a growth spurt around 18months, so I was kind of waiting until after that.  She’s 18 1/2 months old now.  Perhaps in another month I’ll be bold enough to start night weaning her.  It sure will be nice to get more than 2-3 hours of sleep at a time!!!

  1. I night weaned olee at 11months- it took about a month of first easing him off it gradually and then when he still woke up and cried for 3 hours in the middle of the night with me right beside him trying to soothe him gently back to sleep and him just crying in my ear (I thought I was going to go insane) so after a month of that I eventually let him cry it out. Of course I felt bad, but then he started SLEEPING!!! and I was happier with him during the day.
