As I mentioned in the previous post, Svara is now enjoying peanut butter. I was going to wait until she’s two to introduce it to her, but she’s already accidentally had some things with peanut butter in them, so I figured what the heck. While I don’t mind her eating peanut butter, I know that almonds are healthier. But I do not have access to almond butter. And if I could find it I know it would be awfully expensive. But I CAN find almonds and always have some in my fridge.
So… I looked online for some recipes and there are tons. All are about the same. You can use roasted or raw almonds. I decided to use raw, as I figure it’s a bit healthier, so why not. It takes longer for it to break down into butter (about 12 minutes), but it does and it turned out nice and creamy.
If you want to see how to make your own, I liked these posts showing both with roasted and raw almonds:
There was a point when I had to open my food processor every 15 seconds to scrape it down and to help it get past that point I added about 1/2 Tablespoon of canola oil. After that it came together and started turning into a butter. It wasn’t necessary, but I was alone in the house with a toddler and I needed to speed things up a bit!
Svara enjoyed eating a spoon of the almond butter mixed with a bit of honey to sweeten.
