Big Sister

family, Svara, Talisa

Svara has a new name these days  – Akka.  It is a term meaning “big sister” in Tamil. She took to the new name like a fish to water and takes her new role as a big sister with great honor and happiness.

Before Talisa was born we of course wondered how she would truly react to having a baby in the home.  We knew there would be some necessary life adjustments, but didn’t know in what ways she would react.  Turns out that she has only pure love for her baby sister.  She has acted out in other ways, but never towards the baby, which is good news!

Here are a few photos of Svara enjoying her role as an Akka:

Svara loves to hold her new sister! Unfortunately Talisa doesn't enjoy it as much and it never lasts long.

Talisa gave her first smiles to Svara. It's obvious that she adores her big sister as much as her big sister adores her!

  1. Oh, this is so sweet! And how smart of you to give her tasks to do to help out. This post makes me feel so much better – we are about to have a second child, and although our older son is excited now, I have been nervous about how this might change once the baby is born. Great to see how well it is going for your family!

    1. I also was nervous before Talisa was born. It hasn’t been all smooth sailing of course, Svara found other outlets for her frustrations 😉 But I was just glad that they were not towards the baby. I hope it is a smooth transition as possible for your family. The first couple months are pretty crazy, but now it’s starting to get a bit smoother.
