Wow, half a year has gone by already!!
This month Talisa has been all about rolling around and observing things
Stats – Talisa had her 6 month checkup yesterday. She is 7.2kg (15lb 13oz), right about average.
Sleep – This has been a rough month for sleeping. The good part is that she falls asleep pretty well, when she’s tired. She takes 2-4 naps a day. She stays up 1-2 hours between naps and then shows definite signs of sleepiness – she gets pretty cranky and complaining. She goes to bed for the night any time between 9pm and midnight (occasionally even later!). This month she has been getting up several times throughout the night. Most nights she stays up for 1-2 hours in the middle of the night. Occasionally she even has two periods of staying awake during the night. Pretty tiring! All month she has woken up every 1-2 hours at night. Last night she finally had two three hour stretches of sleep, yay for me!!! She gets up for the day any time between 7 and 9. She will sometimes fall asleep by herself if she has nursed, is quite sleepy, and I put her in her crib. But usually if she’s not quite asleep enough she’ll pop back awake. The world is just too interesting! So I hold her until she is almost asleep, and then put her in her crib. She’ll move around to get comfy and then settle back to sleep.
Food – As I mentioned last month, Talisa was getting REALLY interested in our food. So a couple weeks ago I started giving her some here and there. We started with banana. She has also tasted watermelon, apple, papaya, green beans, frozen blueberries, and pumpkin. She seems very keen on eating and hasn’t rejected anything yet. I haven’t been pureeing anything, just cutting it into tiny pieces (green beans) or mashing with a fork. With Svara I was pretty intent on doing everything “perfectly” and pureed all foods just right, etc. This time I’m going more with the flow and focusing more on whole foods. I’ve tried putting food on her tray, but she just bangs it and sweeps it away with her hand, she doesn’t have her pincher grasp down yet 🙂 I remember buying little “puffs” as a convenience food for Svara. I haven’t bought any yet, and will see how long I can hold out with Talisa. I want her to appreciate real foods instead of focusing mostly on processed foods. Those organic puffs may be made out of vegetables, but they sure don’t have the texture of real vegetables.
Playing – Not much change from last month, except that she’s enjoying life more! She can get the biggest smile on her face when she sees Svara. Her favorite thing is when Svara is jumping around, she thinks it’s hilarious! Some of her favorite things are blanket tents, funny dances and movements, and music. She has also been practicing her grabbing and throwing skills every day!
Mobility – Talisa is rolling really well these pasts few weeks. She can roll over and over, so we really have to be careful about where we place her! When on her tummy she sticks her butt up in the air and sometimes even manages to push herself forward a bit. She can sit without support for quite awhile, especially if the surface is firm enough (she can’t sit as well on the bed). Standing is still her usual preferred position. When she’s on her back she still often lifts her head as high as she can to see what’s going on.
Me, 6 months postpartum:
I’m sure it’s no surprise that I haven’t started exercising yet 😛 Though I’ve managed to drop another kg, so I’m down to about 55kg now, which is good, that’s about what I was before getting pregnant! I still have a few kg to lose, as I was trying to lose 3-4kg before I got pregnant. I can fit into several pairs of pants now, which is nice! They are a tad snug, but they were a tad snug before I got pregnant as well, hence the reason why I was trying to lose a few kg at that time. I don’t mind being this weight, but I need to tone up my stomach muscles, and I’d rather lose a bit more weight to fit into my clothes instead of having to buy new clothes!
